Best Feminist books of 2019
2019 has been a year of women and their allies around the world saying enough is enough. The world of literature has reflected this with the release of some inspiring and powerful feminist books. Here are my favorites in no particular order:
In recent years, the Handmaids have become a symbol of feminist protest. In Margaret Atwood’s eagerly anticipated sequel she further explored the complexity of living within a misogynist theocracy. The fact that nothing within this society is purely fiction should be a wake-up call for any reader.
This novel follows 12 characters, most of them black British women, moving through the world in different decades and learning how to be. They are all trying to live within a patriarchal society and grapple with feminist questions.

Also the Weinstein story from the side of the tenacious Ronan Farrow, an eye-opening account of a conspiracy of abusers reaching from Harvey Weinstein to the top of the US media. For Farrow, this story is personal and the way he tells it is thrilling.
We all know Brock Turner’s name, but few of us know Chanel Miller’s. Here is a chance to hear her story of being a survivor, the long climb to justice and refusal to of a survivor to shrink her suffering.
We all know we live in a man’s world, but what does that mean in reality? This book explains and gives countless examples of why a world built by men for men results in pain, discomfort, and death for women. Shocking and eye-opening.
A very funny look into what makes the world go around, Sex Power Money. It really cuts through the bullshit to the heart of gender relationships.
A collection of powerful speeches by women who have changed the course of history – from Boudica to Benazir Bhutto. Be inspired and excited.
A step by step toolkit for activism, perfect as a down-to-earth gateway for anyone interested in changing the world
A practical guidebook to follow up on “Slay In Your Lane”, it is designed to inspire a generation of black British women to find success in every area of their lives.
